Location, location, location...
Pacific students will tell you Pacific University is an ideal location – a comfortable campus in a safe neighborhood, with the beach, the mountains, and the thriving city of Portland all within a short drive.
Forest Grove
Step outside the perimeter of Pacific University and you are in downtown Forest Grove, a safe, quiet suburb of Portland. Many students frequent Maggie’s Buns and Pizza Schmizza, two eateries, just down the street from campus. The Fred Meyer department store is a popular destination for school supplies and residence hall decorations, and a movie theater featuring first-run flicks is right up the road. A few miles away is McMenamins Grand Lodge, which features casual dining, a game room, and live music.
The Great Outdoors
With its rugged coastline, lush forests, and snow-capped mountains, the Pacific Northwest is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. And at Pacific, you’re right in the thick of it. Within an hour, you can hike, kayak, fish, snowboard, ski, mountain bike or go white water rafting.
The Outback Program is a convenient and economical way for students to engage in outdoor pursuits. The program sponsors about 15 trips, and provides transportation, planning, and equipment – sometimes for a little as $5.
Portland
Twenty-five minutes from campus, and easily accessible by the bus and the MAX light rail train, Portland offers all the cultural advantages of a big city: shopping, theatre, professional sports, dining, museums and art galleries. Freshmen head to Portland twice with the First Year Seminar class, and often the trips spark an interest in the city for them. The Outback Program also sponsors organized “urban adventures” to Portland, including trips to museums, theatrical performances, and ethnic restaurants.
