Pacific Theatre & Dance students and faculty excel in the performing arts.

At Pacific University, theatre and dance are serious subjects. Our program offers high-quality theatrical productions to the campus and community, while providing real-world work experiences for participants.

Students majoring or minoring in theatre ordance have many opportunities to be involved in productions ranging from a series of plays put on each year by the department to the annual Choreographers' Showcase.

Pacific theatre &dDance students and graduates excel in their fields. Matthew Sa ('06) recently landed a competitive national internship with the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Elizabeth "Libbi" Houghton ('07), gained internship credit and valuable experience while working with Artists Rep in downtown Portland. Students have also created their own production company known as LunchBox Theatre, which focuses on allowing student-actors the opportunity to experiment with small audiences and socially-conscious themes.

Here at Pacific, students do not simply learn about acting, choreographing, dancing, and screenwriting; they are actively involved members of their field.

The faculty and staff of the Department of Theatre & Dance are also leading active careers in the performing arts.

The Director of Dance, Jennifer Camp, is a member of Polaris Dance Theatre in Portland. She has presented research on dance science around the world, including a recent presentation at the International Dance Medicine and Science Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

Ellen Margolis, Associate Professor of Theatre and Chair of Theatre & Dance, works professionally as an actor, director, playwright, and dialect coach. Her recent works have been produced in New York, New Jersey, and Minnesota.

Last spring, Ellen was commissioned by Portland Center Stage to create a performance text for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation. Professor Margolis is currently working on a new script for Toy Box Theatre in Manhattan.

Costume Designer Caitlin Quinn works with a Portland company called Refabulous Designs, which specializes in custom clothing and costumes. Assistant Professor Joel Hobson serves as Lighting Designer for Miracle Theatre Group's La Carpa del Ausente: El Dia de los Muertos Festival and recently worked as the Technical Director for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival's 30th Anniversary Season.

In the Theatre & Dance program at Pacific, students will find professional educators who will challenge them to be active in their field and will help them grow as artists.
