Media Arts Department

A major in media arts prepares students for careers in a variety of media-related fields including journalism, broadcasting, video, film and web production, public relations; and advertising. The department emphasizes theoretical and social aspects of the media as well as the creative and technical components.
Students in the media arts may major in one of four areas: journalism, film & video production, integrated media, or general media studies. All of these majors can also serve as minors for students wishing to major in another academic discipline. The department also offers a film studies minor. All of our major/minor programs have a strong theory-to-practice design that challenges students to apply their knowledge through the creation of individual and group projects.
All media arts students are encouraged to participate in the student-managed media outlets at Pacific, including the student newspaper, The Index; KPUR, the campus radio station; and Pacific Productions, the student video production group. Many media arts students get professional experience in their chosen field of study by doing internships with local organizations.
