Japanese at Pacific is taught by four faculty members. Students start out by taking basic and intermediate level Japanese language classes. In the third and fourth years, students continue with grammar, composition, literature, and culture classes. All of our majors study abroad for at least one semester in Japan. In addition, there are many opportunities for our students to practice their Japanese on campus. Every year, Pacific hosts a native Japanese-speaking student who lives in one of the on-campus residences. This person - our Japanese Language Assistant - hosts a variety of activities on campus, including the bi-weekly Japanese conversation table at lunch and the weekly Japanese Night. In addition, because we have many Japanese exchange students on our campus each year, our students can have contact with the language and culture without even leaving our campus. Why major or minor in Japanese?

Studying Japanese brings career opportunities for international business.

By studying Japanese, students in various fields (business, tourism, journalism, science, technology, humanities, and social sciences) will build strong foundations for their future career.

Students can learn Japanese culture, which is very different and unique, through studying Japanese language.

Because Japanese language and culture is so different, learning Japanese helps students learn about their own language and culture.

Students can go to Japan to teach English through the J.E.T. program supported by government.
