General Information

WALTER, CLARK, AND McCORMICK RESIDENCE HALLS
All residence hall rooms are equipped for each individual with a single bed, desk with an overhead light, bulletin board, chair, dresser, mirror, mini-blinds, telephone jack, computer hook-up, smoke detector, a closet and some storage cabinets.

VANDERVELDEN COURT APARTMENT COMPLEX
The Vandervelden Court complexes are fully furnished, including window coverings, and carpet. The living room has a couch, chair, coffee table, and end table. A counter which may be used as an eating space separates the kitchen from the living room. There is space underneath for four bar stools which are provided. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove, oven, and sink.

BURLINGHAM and GILBERT HALL

Each bedroom Burlingham is equipped with a bed, dresser (detached or as part of the bed depening on the apartment style), desk and desk lamp, chair, computer hook-up, smoke detector and closet space. Living rooms have a sofa, two chairs, coffee table, and TV Stand. Mini blinds are provided at all exterior windows. Kitchen units are equipped with a fridge, microwave, sink, oven and stove.

ALL HALLS & APARTMENTS

BED & BATH – Most beds are 80" long, so we advise that you purchase extra long fitted or flat sheets, however, regular sheets also fit with a stretch. Don't forget a good mattress cover, as many end-of-the-year charges to students are due to mattress stains; many of these charges are easily avoidable with a mattress cover. For units with bathrooms, don't forget toilet paper, hand soap, hand towels, a wastebasket, and cleaning supplies.

APPLIANCES
- Due to electrical limitations and fire safety regulations halogen lamps, air conditioners, barbeques, or any open-coil appliances are not allowed in any residence hall room. Appliances that do not meet these requirements will be confiscated and placed in storage. Microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, breadmakers, and blenders, are not permitted in Walter, Clark, or McCormick. Such items are allowed in the apartment kitchens of Burlingham and Vandervelden.

Refrigerators four cubic feet or smaller are permitted in rooms. Each residence hall has a kitchen equipped with a microwave and oven for your use. Community barbeques are also available outside of some halls.

MUSIC STUFF
- A stereo and/or radio are nice to have if you are a music lover. Musical instruments that don't disturb others when you play them are good to bring. Loud instruments such as electric guitars or drums should be brought with the knowledge that they can be played only in Taylor Meade Performing Arts Center. This building on campus houses special practice rooms where you can practice your musical instruments. You might want to bring earphones for enjoying your music quietly in your room.

COMPUTING & NETWORK RESOURCES- All students attending Pacific University will automatically receive an e-mail account and will have access to the online library information system, various file servers, computer labs, the campus Intranet and the world wide Internet. The campus residence halls are Ethernet enabled, and wireless network access is offered in hall lobbies, all Burlingham Hall apartments, and many other areas on campus. Students are encouraged to bring personal computers with them to enhance their college experience. For details about what kind of computer to bring to campus, refer to University Information Services. On campus, there are numerous locations for students to connect personal laptop computers and several general-purpose computer facilities that provided software packages for word processing, spreadsheets and presentation graphics, research, e-mail access and Internet exploration. Color and black and white laser printing is available on a cost-per-copy basis. Students will receive complete information about computing and network resources during Orienation.

TELEPHONE - Analog telephone connections and voicemail are provided for each room or unit. There is no charge for on-campus, local, or inbound calls. Long distance services are commercially available through various long distance calling card programs. Students must provide their own analog telephone. Cordless analog phones are prohibited. For technology and telephone assistance send an e-mail to help@pacificu.edu or call 503.352.3132.

NOTE: The University uses voice mail and e-mail as an official mode of communication. You are expected to fully utilize the system to receive important University information.

PETS - Residents and guests are prohibited from possessing or transporting animals or unapproved pets in campus housing at all times. As defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, a person with a disability who is visiting campus housing may bring their service animal into the building with them. Residents must apply to keep approved pets in their room and receive written approval from their RD. For more particulars and application information, contact your Resident Director.

CARS - If you bring your car you'll need to register your vehicle with Campus Public Safety and purchase a parking permit through the Pacific Information Center in the University Center. Parking is sometimes difficult to find and you can easily get around Forest Grove on foot or bike. The public bus system is inexpensive and leaves for Portland approximately every 20 minutes. The bus stop is half a block from campus. The MAX Lightrail system is also available and runs from Hillsboro through Portland to Gresham or the Airport. Click here for more information about parking on campus.

BICYCLES - An inexpensive form of transportation as well as an excellent fitness activity, Forest Grove has many beautiful bicycle routes. If you bring your bicycle, be sure to bring a good reliable bike lock--we recommend the Kryptonite Bicycle Lock. Clark, Walter, McCormick, and Vandervelden all have bicycle storage rooms. Burlingham has outdoor covered bike storage.

LAUNDRY SUPPLIES - There is one laundry room in each residence hall, so bring a laundry bag or basket and detergent. Laundry machines are operated through a laundry card system; cards are available for purchase in the Bistro in the University Center during its operating hours. You can add money to your laundry card with a debit or credit card, or with cash ($5, $10, $20 bills only.)

ESSENTIALS - A checkbook and ATM card, a wastepaper basket, an alarm clock, a basket or bag to carry your toiletries to the bathroom, a flashlight, kitchen utensils for use in the community kitchens, and an umbrella.

SHIPPING INFORMATION - If you are coming from a long distance and/or using air transportation, you may ship some of your belongings to the University via UPS or Parcel Post. Address them using your name, c/o your residence hall, room number (if known), Pacific University, 2043 College Way, Forest Grove, OR 97116. Please send them so that they will arrive on campus approximately the same time you do (storage space is limited).
