My main teaching interests: Mexican literature and culture, Mexican-American lit and culture, 20th century Latin American narrative and community-based learning projects.
Several of my upper-division courses include a community-based or service-learning element wherein students improve their knowledge of Spanish language and Mexican-American culture by working with local organizations who serve Spanish-speaking individuals (e.g. bilingual schools, medical clinics, educational programs).
I teach a literature class to low-income Latina women here on campus each week (the women come from an organization called "Adelante Mujeres"). Pacific students are welcome to come to classes and participate in the discussions.
At Pacific University, all faculty teach a variety of different courses. Typically, we do not use graduate teaching assistants, which means that your classes will be taught by professors and that you will have plenty of opportunities to get to know the faculty in your discipline.
