New View: Film Projects Takes Different Approach to Healing

Media arts major Warner Shaw ’17, a gifted athlete and quarterback on the Boxer Football team, suffered a catastrophic knee injury just days before a tryout for professional play.

“It was arguably one of the worst moments of my life,” he said.

Unable to continue playing at the competitive level, Shaw decided to chronicle the trials and tribulations of his recovery to show the challenges, struggles and hardships athletes must endure when suffering a serious injury. The resulting film became his senior capstone project.

“This film is not about injuries or sports per se, but about overcoming setbacks and how life can change for the better if you look at the situation through a glass-half-full mentality.”

The media arts program at Pacific University prepares students to write for print and broadcast, create still and moving visual images, and how to use the latest computer communication technology on their way to careers in media and communications.
