Studying Education in New Zealand

Dr. Bryan Cichy-Parker led a study abroad course with four students from the College of Education to New Zealand in May and June of 2017.

They spent three weeks on the north island of New Zealand learning about Maori and English cultures of New Zealand and doing lots of sight-seeing.

About half of that time was spent working at two schools in the Auckland area, getting to know the local education systems. The schools are part of the Manaiakalani Education Trust — a school system that serves some of the poorest students in the country — that is doing innovative work with the integration of technology and digital education.

Dr. Mike Charles, the founder of this trip which just completed its fourth iteration, hopes to continue using this opportunity for professional development of professors and Pacific students in the future.
