Tips for First-Generation Students

About one in four Pacific University students are the first in their family to attend college. At Pacific, supporting these students on the path to graduation is a priority.

First-generation students can often struggle because they are less aware of financial, social and educational resources than their peers. US News & World Report recently posted a Q&A to help first-generation students navigate their resources. Included in the piece are video interviews with experts who offer tips for first-generation students.

Pacific also invites first-generation students to seek out resources on campus through the Advising Center and through support from faculty and staff. Many of Pacific's employees also were the first in their families to attend college, and several professors offer their own tips and offers of help to students in a series of stories online.
