Volleyball Squad Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

The Pacific University volleyball team is one of a record-setting 822 teams that have earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2016-2017 season.

The Boxers posted a 3.55 grade-point average to secure the annual honor. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-1993 academic year, honors college and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Boxers' head coach Kip Yoshimura is proud of the whole program's achievement in the classroom. "It's a very exciting accomplishment, and shows the dedication and hard work put in by all those involved," said Yoshimura. The veteran head coach thinks it might be the highest team GPA that he's had in his career of coaching.
