Voyages Team

We are proud of this amazing group of Pacific staff, faculty, and students that make up the Voyages Team, and work year-round to make Voyages the best experience it can be. We come from many different geographical origins and a wide range of backgrounds, but are brought together by our shared passions for the outdoors and connecting with others.

We hope to see you on a Voyage!

Sam Morrison

Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits

Voyages Coordinator

Hello Voyages participants! I am looking forward to all the exciting trips and outstanding leaders we have for Voyages 2017! I recently moved to Oregon from Baja California, Mexico where I was an Assistant Manager for Sea Kayak Adventures. Prior to that I was a professional raft guide in Idaho and Montana, a science teacher in Guadalajara, Mexico and have been an avid whitewater kayaker for more than 10 years. I am delighted to be in the Pacific Northwest in one of the best river areas in the country! Voyages is an amazing way to kick off your time in university, while building skills and relationships that will help you to be more successful. Oregon is truly a gem for outdoor pursuits and there is no better way to experience it than to come on a Voyage!

Amanda Odell

Voyages Coordinator

Biology '17

Hi y'all! My name is Amanda and I'm from Redding, California (bonus points if you know where that is). I am pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Outdoor Leadership. I love being outdoors hiking, backpacking, climbing, or kayaking- anything that gets me outside with some really rad people. My ultimate goal is to work in Outdoor Education, leading people on amazing trips and helping them push past their preconceived limits. Voyages was life changing for me and I hope to help create a similar experience for you guys. I can't wait to see everyone's bright and shining faces this summer! We're going to have a blast!

Katelyn Hennes

Voyages Coordinator

Exercise Science '16

Hi everyone, my name is Katelyn Hennes and I am an Exercise Science major and Outdoor Leadership minor here at Pacific. However, by the time you actually go on a Voyage, I will be a Pacific Graduate! Pacific can’t keep me away for long though, as in the fall I will be starting Pacific’s Physical Therapy graduate program. Going on a Voyage was one of the best experiences I had during my time here and it helped me make lifelong friends and discover my passion for the outdoors. I can't wait to meet and share my enthusiasm for adventure with all of you! You all have some good times coming your way, and I hope your Voyage can be the start of your amazing college experience.

Katie Lightcap

Voyage Leader

Biology '18

Yo! My name is Katie and I am a member of the class of 2018. I'm a Biology major with an Outdoor Leadership minor (if all goes as planned), with the ultimate goal of becoming a Developmental Pediatrician who owns a lot of dogs. Aside from laughing, I enjoy running, sketching, and bad jokes. I try to live life optimistically with a healthy dose of sarcasm or dirty feet (see Tailor Dolgin regarding this point), and happy people. As an Oregonian, I grew up with nature all around me! My preference is to be on the water or in a tree, but spending time in the OP program has shown me how cool climbing and playing in the snow can be. Welcome to Pacific, class of 2020! I hope your Voyage gets you stoked to start this adventure as a Boxer, and that you make some great memories! I know I'm psyched to be taking more goons into the Pacific Northwest, so get pumped!

Elizabeth Cruz

Voyage Leader

Undecided '18

Hey! My name is Eli (sounds like Ellie) Cruz. My dad is in the military so I'm kinda from everywhere. I'm a swimmer for Pacific and have been swimming my whole life, I love it. Both of my parents are very outdoorsy people which is where I get it from. My  favorite things besides swimming, are skiing(winter), camping, and photography. I've never lived in Oregon before, but now that I'm here, I don't think I'll ever leave. It's beautiful.

Katy Snyder

Voyage Leader

Integrated Media '18

Hey all! My name is Katy Snyder and I am from Seattle, Washington. I am pursuing an integrated media major and an outdoor leadership minor. At the beginning of my freshman year of high school, a couple of my friends and I helped to begin an outdoor adventure group for high school students. Through this program, I grew my leadership skills along with my passion for being in the outdoors. I love being outdoors all year long, exploring the beautiful area in which we live. My favorite activities in the outdoors include climbing, hiking, and XC skiing. I would love to continue being involved with outdoor education for the rest of my life; I feel the backcountry is where you meet some of the coolest people and it is very important to educate those heading into the backcountry so they stay safe and do not harm the environment. I am stoked to get to know all of you and make this an amazing transition to Pacific!

Lily Sam

Voyage Leader

Biology/Public Health '17

Hey y'all! My name's Lily, and I'm studying biology and public health here at Pacific. I've always been grateful to call the beautiful PNW my home, but it wasn't until my own freshman Voyage that I got to see all it had to offer (Smith Rocks. 10/10. Would recommend). It never fails to amaze me how the outdoors can bring unlikely friends together, inspire, and teach you about yourself. And it seems no matter what I'm doing--be it climbing, on the water, or hiking--the moment I step outside I never return disappointed. Partaking in a Voyage was and still is one of the best decisions I have made and I’m so psyched at the possibility of being a part of yours. See you soon!

English '18

Hello future Pacificonians (Pacific-ites? Boxers?)!! I’m Tailor, I’m originally from Colorful Colorado, and I’m a member of the Class of 2018. I’m an English Literature Major with Minors in Business and Outdoor Leadership and unhealthy obsessions with both books and boy bands. I’m a firm believer in the barefoot lifestyle and an even bigger believer in the awesome power of the outdoors so being a part of the Voyages Team is something I love, love, love. When I don’t have my nose in a book or my toes in the dirt I coach volleyball in Beaverton and wreak havoc in Pacific’s Admissions Office. Jumping on a Voyage my freshman year was one of my favorite things about coming to Pac U, and I can’t wait to share that adventure with you!

Bryce Fowler

Voyage Leader

Physics '17

Greetings future Boxers! My name is Bryce Fowler and I am from Heppner, Oregon. I am currently a junior here at Pacific, majoring in Physics with minors in both Mathematics and Computer Science. The outdoors have always been a big part of my life; as a young lad I was frequently hiking, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. I have spent a lot of time mountaineering and rock climbing since I came to Pacific and I am stoked to share my experiences with you! I did not attend a Voyage my freshman year, but as an employee for Outdoor Pursuits I have been able to see how much fun these outings are for both participants and staff. I am truly excited to embark into the wilderness with you merry folk; minstrels will sing ballads of our glorious adventures for years to come!

John Inman

Voyage Leader

Biology '18

What’s up everyone, my name is Jon (or Papa Jon if I am making pizza/calzones) and I am from Canby, Oregon. I am a biology major with outdoor leadership minor. I am playing with the idea of Optometry or Teaching after college. I, like every other voyage leader, have a huge passion for getting outdoors. I have been involved in the outdoors ever since I was a child. Although I started with simple day hikes and tailgate camping, I have since found my passion for multi-day back country trips involving sea kayaking, backpacking or mountaineering. Being in the wilderness always reminds me how simple life can be and what raw, natural beauty looks like. Back in civilization my passion lies on the diamond. I am a Boxer baseball player and love every minute of it. This will be my second time leading a voyage, and am stoked to meet you as you enter the best years of your life!!

Alyssa Thompson

Voyage Leader

Biology '17

Hey! My name is Alyssa and I am from a small town in northern Colorado. My intended major is Biology and I am interested in the career of Optometry. My experience outdoors includes lots of fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, and sea kayaking. As an out of state student coming to a place where I did not know anyone, participating in Voyages in my freshman year was one of the best decisions I could have made since coming to Pacific. I found people who enjoyed the outdoors as much as me, I found a group of friends who I can trust and depend on, and I found a place that I could fall back on when my academics were draining me of my sanity! Most importantly though, I found an environment that continually challenges me to grow personally and skillfully. College was the time I decided to try things out of my comfort zone, and participating with Voyages was my first step to trying things completely new in the most inviting, fun, and friendly atmosphere! I invite all people, of many gifts and differences, to try voyages out and hope to guarantee that it will be one of the best decisions of your college career! I look forward to meeting you!

Undeclared '18

Hello, my name is Chloe, I'm from a small group of islands in Washington state, so I grew up surrounded by nature. I love being outdoors, whether it be hiking, canoeing, kayaking or any other activity. I row here at Pacific and absolutely love it. I have not declared a major, but I know I will be minoring in outdoor leadership.I went on the surfing voyage last year and it was a wonderful way to meet people and have a rockin' time, I am so excited and can't wait to meet you all.

Lelah Weber
Voyage Leader
Social Work '18
Hey y’all! My name is Lelah and I’m from a small town in Michigan. I grew up doing all sort of
outdoor activities and fell in love with the outdoors at a young age. I am pursuing a degree in
Social Work with a minor in Outdoor Leadership. I am obsessed with paddle boarding but love
doing anything outdoors. My ultimate goal is to become a field guide in the wilderness therapy
industry and help others. I’m stoked to meet y’all and share this wonderful adventure!
Anthony Hinkson
Voyage Leader
Anthropology '17
Hello there! My name is Anthony Hinkson and I am a Senior Anthropology Major here at Pacific. I will be one of your surf instructor. I have been surfing for 3 years now and it’s grown into a passion of mine. I have been deemed the resident surf bum here at Outdoor Pursuits.  Educated surf bum that is. This will be my third time leading the surf trip and I very excited to get to know you all and of course, surf. I hope you’re enjoying you summer and are excited to get started at Pacific.

Riley Peterson

Voyage Leader

Studio Art '19

I'm Riley, I'm a studio art major and I'm from Seattle Washington aka the best city in the world. I hope to be a professional artist and musician someday. I love being outside a lot and I am a counselor at a overnight summer camp in Washington. If there's one thing you need to know it's that I'm a camp counselor because I talk about it all the time. The main thing being outside has taught me is how to be comfortable with being myself. I'm psyched for voyages this year because of the experience I had on mine (it's how I met my best friend Marissa) and I can't wait to share the indescribable experience with others!

Mason Rausten

Voyage Leader

Undecided '19

I'm Mason and I cannot wait for this climbing trip! Typically I'm fonder of colder activities (Snowboarding is one of my favorite pastimes!) but climbing has quickly become one of my favorite things to do outside of classes through climbing club (go join that after you get on campus). I'm also a super easy going guy who can get along with just about everyone, and I am sure you will find that to be the case with most people you meet on campus. Looking forward to meeting you and you guys are gonna love the trip!

Psychology '19

Hey all! I'm so excited to be leading a voyage this season, and can't wait to meet every single one of you! I'm a forensic psychology major and a double anthropology and peace & social justice minor. I grew up in Yakima, Washington but have since spent the last few years in Wheeler over on the coast when I moved there in 2013. (I'm sure you have no clue where that's at & don't feel bad about it, the population of the town is only about 400 people. For the record, it's pretty close to Cannon Beach and Rockaway Beach!) I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be immersed in nature for pretty much my whole conscious life. Hiking and photography are two of my great passions and luckily for me, they go together pretty well! I've also been on a few backpacking trips which I've enjoyed immensely, and hope to expand my horizons outdoors in the years to come. Hope to see you soon!

Sienna Ballou
Voyage Leader
English '18
Hey future college goers and voyagees! My name is Sienna and I am from Vancouver (not the Canada, but the Washington one). I am one of those students who came to this school with the unrealistic goal of doing EVERYTHING COOL. While I do not have a Hermione Granger time turner at my disposal, I have been able to exercise my many passions here at Pacific! I am an English Literature Major and a Dance and Spanish Minor. I hope to eventually travel and teach people in new and exciting places. In my free time I love to read, goof around, and get outside with awesome people! I went on a voyage my freshman year, and had such a good time that I knew I had to be an instructor. I am a lover of the rocks, but was introduced to the wonderful experience of surfing here at Pacific!  Hang on tight, because we’re going to have a wild ride.

Destiny Rigney

Voyage Leader

Biology/ Exercise Science '19

Hey all! My name is Destiny and I'm from Lake Arrowhead, California. I am pursuing a double major in Biology and Exercise Science with a minor in Disability Studies, with the goal of becoming a Doctor of Sports Medicine. I love being outdoors hiking, swimming, backpacking, snowboarding, dirt biking, anything outdoors really. I had a blast on my voyage trip this past year and it helped me have a better transition into Pacific because I met new friends and had familiar faces to talk to on my first day of classes. I am so excited to meet all of you and I hope that you guys will enjoy your trip as much as I did!!

Tristen Nolasco

Voyage Leader

Environmental Studies '17

Wassup Voyages! This is Tristen commander of the third dimension coming to you live. I am a Senior at Pacific and am majoring in the outdoors or as the fancy term calls it Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Sustainable Design. But what really gets me going is my minor in Outdoor Leadership. I love getting the privilege to share the outdoors with new people and so I'm super stoked to be leading yet another climbing trip to the wondrous and magical lands of Smith Rock. This adventure that we call college is definitely a big one but i believe it will be one of the best adventures of your life thus far and I'm vibrating with joy to accompany you. Peace and Love

Lauren Hento

Voyage Leader

Business '19

Hey everyone! My name is Lauren and I’m from Keizer, Oregon. I have not yet declared a major, but am leaning towards a double major in Business and German. I’ve been lucky enough to live in Oregon my whole life and it never ceases to amaze me. It really is true that the PNW is best! There is something for everyone here—whether it’s hiking, skiing, kayaking, or even rock climbing. I truly believe that nature has a way of connecting us to our roots in a way unlike any other. Going on a voyage my Freshman year was an incredible experience that I will never forget, and I’m excited to be able to be a part of your first college adventure!

Elizabeth Cross

Voyages Leader

Biology '19

Hey I’m Elizabeth! I’m from Las Vegas, Nevada. I’m here at Pacific studying biology and thinking about a future in the science world. Moving from a big city in the desert to a place as magical as Oregon got me stoked to immerse myself in outdoorsy activities, and the surf voyage was the perfect place to start for me. Surfing, skiing, mountaineering, and backpacking are just the beginning of what I hope to be a long relationship with the outdoors. My personal involvement in the program as well as making so many inspiring friends from Outdoor Pursuits made my first year of college just that much more exciting. I can’t wait to share new memories with you!
