Dr. Yang comes to Pacific University in 2007 from Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco where he was a post-doctorial fellow. Dr. Yang has received his education in psychology and neural modeling in Taiwan and Japan. Dr. Yang holds a PhD in cognitive neurophysiology. Dr. Yang’s research and graduate work is on cognitive neuroscience with emphasis on cognitive control of eye movements in reading. Dr. Yang is a member of the Vision Ergonomics Research group, where he continues his research in the field of how human readers adopt eye movements as a result of coping with difficulty in learning to read, such as in the case of development dyslexia. Dr. Yang also is involved in studies on how athletes use their visuomotor skills to improve sports performance.

Dr. Yang is a native of Taiwan. His research interests include: neurophysiological basis for eye movement control; eye movements in sports; eye movement control in reading. He enjoys mountaineering, backcountry skiing and backpacking.

What does he enjoy most about teaching at the College of Optometry?

"I enjoy having the opportunity to work with the students to develop all aspects of their optometric skills, including clinic and research projects."
