Letter from the Vice President of Student Affairs

Dear Students,

Welcome to Pacific University!

We are delighted to have you join our Pacific University family. As you begin your educational journey this academic year, you are embarking on an exciting path, full of learning, promise and hope. The professionals working in Student Affairs are here to help you take full advantage of the opportunities you will find at Pacific, not just within the walls of our classrooms, but across all of our campuses. We are committed to your success.

Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, Pacific University has exemplary faculty and staff who are here to support you. As a Pacific University student, you will have access to and opportunities for leadership development, academic support, networking, community service, and personal growth. We encourage you to participate in the many extracurricular activities we offer. Many of our campus leaders are involved in Student Government, Greek Life, Student Orientation, Veteran Services, Outdoor Pursuits, programming with one of our many centers such as the Student Multicultural Center, Center for Gender Equity, the McCall Center for Civic Engagement or compete as student-athletes.

While we hope that your time at Pacific University is memorable and positive, we also recognize that some students may experience difficulties in adjusting to campus life, and that all of us will need a little extra support at some point in our lives. If you find yourself struggling or in need of some help, I encourage you to reach out to one of our many support systems. Please visit our Student Support page for information on connecting with the Student Counseling Center, Office of Accessibility and Accommodations, Academic and Career Advising and many other student support services. Additionally, you can visit our Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to learn more about efforts Pacific is making toward social justice.

Your time at Pacific will go faster than you might imagine. I encourage you to take the time to get to know your faculty, staff and peers. I encourage you to ask questions, to learn all you can about Pacific and what we can offer you. Most of all, I expect you to study hard, meet new friends, get involved, and most importantly, have fun. We are here to support you in any way we can. Go Boxers!

See you around campus,
Dr. Sarah Phillips
Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
