Campus Closures

On Monday, March 23 the Oregon Governor declared a Stay Home, Stay Safe directive. In compliance, many campus services are working remotely or have created procedures to limit fact to face contact. Student Life is still open and moving forward, in new ways, to assist all of you in being successful; while we honor the need to minimize direct contact.

Will non-academic buildings and facilities, such as the Tran Library be open?

Tran Library | Students and faculty can access the 24/7 area and the equipment with their Student ID card. Find more information on COVID-19 and Library Services.

University Center | The UC will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with card access. The University Bookstore has moved entirely online and the physical location is closed. Mail Services will provide limited services. The Food Pantry has relocated from Scott Hall to UC-104 on the lower level. Food Service is closed with the exception of those students still in residence who have been contacted directly.

Athletic Facilities | Many athletic facilities, including the Stoller Center are closed. A number of online exercise classes are being offered with free trials to exercise during this time frame.

All other buildings are closed or have limited access until further notice. Please contact the office/department you are trying to reach prior to trying to access the building or contact Campus Public Safety to gain access unless otherwise noted.

Please practice physical distancing of six feet at all times.

Academics & Online Classes

How can I stay on track with my schoolwork if I’ve not taken a course online before?

Keep calm. We are going to get through this together.

Remember, your professors are learning right alongside you. Even if you think you cannot do online coursework, give yourself a chance— our professors didn’t think they would be doing online coursework either.

You can do this.

Stay in Touch with Your Professors | Make sure you are in touch with your professors outside of class sessions. Send email, call them or connect via Moodle or other class platforms. They want to know how you are doing and how they can help you succeed.

Limit Distractions | One of the harder parts of learning online is limiting all the other things that will try to distract you from you learning, whether that’s your phone, pop up ads on your computer or your little brother climbing on you, it's hard to keep your focus. Try to find a quiet spot and put other things out of your reach.

Keep a Schedule | Remember when you first started college and you had to learn how to manage your time so that you would actually get everything done? You need to do that all over again in this new environment. Make a schedule for your day. Stick to it.

Take Notes | Even though you are listening to and reading things online, you need to take notes, just like you would if you were in class with no computer. The act of writing your notes helps you remember what you are hearing and will help you learn better.

Ask for Help | If you get stuck or confused, ask for help. Ask your professor, schedule online tutoring or contact the Advising Center. We want you to succeed, so if you are struggling, we want to help.

Although the spring season for many sports has been canceled, coaches are still working with student-athletes to answer questions.

As part of our efforts to enforce social distancing, the Stoller Center is closed until further notice. A number of online exercise classes are being offered with free trials to exercise during this time frame.

Student Accounts

Although Business Office staff is working remotely, Student Accounts staff will be monitoring emails sent to This email address is the best way for students to contact us.

Campus Events & Student Activities

Many university-sponsored events are canceled, including those events organized by outside groups who use our facilities, until further notice. See a full calendar of affected events. For students who have been accepted to Pacific University beginning in the fall, please look for a message from the undergraduate admissions team.

In addition, the Northwest Conference has canceled all athletic contests for the remainder of spring semester. Find more information for COVID-19 Information for Student Athletes.

However, other events are instead moving to online-only formats via video conferencing and other tools. Online events are currently being developed to connect you with your peers.

The Office of Student Engagement continues to meet with undergraduate student leadership and is working to bring you opportunities through Student Senate and ACE Board. We will continue to communicate as plans firm up. The Student Senate Exec Board has met and developed an updated schedule regarding elections, student clubs and other senate business.

Financial Aid

All Financial Aid staff are working remotely, although the physical financial aid office is closed. Please email your financial aid counselor if you have questions or need assistance. If you do not know the email address for your financial aid counselor, log in to BoxerOnline Financial Aid Self Service to view your counselor’s contact information, email, or call 503-352-2857.

Food Pantry and Resources

Many are facing some food insecurity during this time due to many factors.

The Boxer Food Share is temporarily moving to the basement of the University Center, room 104, so that we can continue to serve our community while certain buildings on campus close. We are offering non-perishable items, and will be checking inventory and restocking on a weekly basis.

The building hours for the UC are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. You may need your Boxer ID card to open the door, but the Food Share door will be open.

To maintain social distancing, only one person should be shopping at a time.

Dining Services

Currently Dining Services is being made available to those students who are living on campus. Students have been communicated to directly. Starbucks and the POD remain closed.


The Housing Office has communicated directly through emails to each student currently in housing with options for the rest of the semester and for next academic year. More information can be found COVID-19 Housing Questions.


The Registrar’s Office staff is operating at full capacity but conducting business remotely. While telephone messages left at 503-352-2793 will continue to be checked daily, the most efficient way to relay questions is to write to

Remember, COVID-19 does not discriminate. Neither do we at Pacific. Please help keep our community safe by interrupting stigma by sharing accurate information and speaking up if you witness/experience harassment or acts of discrimination. Student Life

Offices within the Student Affairs Division are open and primarily working remotely. Contact each office or area directly to set up a time to meet by phone, zoom, or in-person, as needed with limited contact.

The Student Life Front Desk in Clark Hall is closed but can be reached by emailing or at 503-352-2200.

The Office of Student Support is available to answer questions, help students connect with faculty or campus departments, and provide non-clinical interpersonal support. This is a challenging time, and we encourage you to take care of yourself as well as your students.They are also available if you need to report a health or safety concern for yourself or others. To access their services, contact Student Support Manager Justin Li at or 503-352-2078 to set up time to meet by phone, Zoom, or in-person, as needed. Public CARE reports can also be submitted to the CARE Team.

Student Counseling Center

In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Student Counseling Center is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our community. Until further notice, the SCC will provide all services through telephone appointments in an effort to adopt social distancing precautions.

Students should not come to the physical office. Counselors are available to support students via telephone appointments during our normal business hours. Health & Medical

Per CDC Guidelines, the State of Oregon and Pacific University Advisories, the Student Health Centers are limiting face/face office visits. If you are in need of a medication refill, please contact the Health Center to schedule a phone visit.

The Student Health Center has been following the recommendations for screening/triaging of phone calls as outlined on the Pacific University Coronavirus resources website, which provides a wealth of information for students, faculty, and staff on the university’s strategies and planning regarding COVID-19.

Our colleagues at the Student Counseling Center also have useful information regarding their services and other essential resources on mental health & wellness as well as crisis management.

How can I keep myself safe?

Follow these tips from the CDC:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Please report any coronavirus-like symptoms on our illness registry so that we can continue to monitor the health of our Pacific community.
