Center for Gender Equity Conferences

The Center for Gender Equity hosts a variety of conferences throughout the year for the community.

A Daylong Conference for and About Boys

On April 27, Pacific University’s Center for Gender Equity will host a day-long conference for boys, ages 12 through 15.

Through the “Guys Today” Conference, boys will have the opportunity to speak on pressing issues and be heard with the aid of trained facilitators from Pacific’s School of Graduate Psychology.  The summit includes an opening session, small group discussions on specific issues important to boys, a sewing session, a campus tour (including a dorm room), lunch in the university commons, and a free “Guy’s Today” gift for all participants.  The conference model is designed to engage boys in critical thought and constructive problem solving. We will explore what it means to be male in today’s society and propose strategies to address common concerns.

Another goal of the conference is to acquaint the boys with a university and encourage them to begin thinking about going to college.  A panel of Pacific undergraduate male students will discuss their own college experiences.
