Cawein Gallery Artist Reception Set for Thursday at 6 p.m.

A reception featuring award-winning Balkan photographer Dženat Dreković, whose work has been on display in the Kathrin Cawein Gallery of this month, will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening, Oct. 29. Admission is free, and the reception will include music by violinist Abigail Tankersley and others.

Dreković’s photography of the lives of people from the Balkans, including Romani Gypsies, has been exhibited in galleries and garnered awards throughout Europe. His exhibit at Pacific is his first to appear in the United States. Dreković is spending 10 days at the university, giving lectures and talks to students, faculty and staff, concluding Monday, Nov. 2 with Balkan Blues: An Evening of Photography & Music

"The photographs I am presenting are the representation of my work that touches upon lives of people from the margins of society in the most positive manner,” he said. “They depict everyday stories from the region of the world that is known for having ‘too much history,’ the Balkans.”

Born in Berovo, Macedonia, Dreković lives in in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
