Dean Gustavson Discusses Oregon Education Summit

Leif Gustavson, dean of the Pacific University College of Education

As president of the Oregon Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Pacific University College of Education Dean Dr. Leif Gustavson recently helped convene the second annual Oregon Education Summit in January 2018.

With attendance from every OACTE member institution, community colleges, Oregon school districts, legislators and other government and nongovernmental agencies, the summit focused on updating educators about recent legislative developments related to education and allowing them to connect with policymakers directly. The group also is working to develop a statewide system for collecting and sharing student data as part of an effort to improve teacher development and support and meet national accreditation requirements.

The opportunity to bring together educators and policymakers is a critical one, Gustavson said in an article for Ed Prep Matters, published by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

“The summit gives us all an opportunity to meet face to face and realize the potential of what we can accomplish collectively," he said.
