Explore the Wilderness as Part of the Outdoor Pursuits Team

The Outdoor Pursuits Team comes from a wide expanse of places and diverse backgrounds, yet all employees share the same passion for the outdoors! OP offers a variety of job opportunities which encourage students to foster their love for the wilderness, while also learning valuable skills.

Outdoor Pursuits is seeking an assistant equity, diversion, and inclusion coordinator (EDI). This person would be instrumental in working between various groups within OP, including marketing, student outreach, and leadership. The most important quality to fill this role is an individual who is aware and knowledgeable of social injustices, and who also displays a passion to help the Outdoor Pursuits program continue to be more equitable, diverse, and inclusive. Candidates must be self-motivated, have the flexibility to work four-to six-hours weekly, display excellent communication skills, and be willing to keep an open mind! Preference is given to candidates who are first or second-year students with the opportunity for growth within the OP program. If interested, please review the EDI Job Description, and contact Phil Friesen at phil@pacificu.edu with questions or concerns!

In addition to the role of EDI coordinator, Outdoor Pursuits is also looking for candidates to participate as leaders for Fall 2021 Voyages! Voyages is a five-day, pre-orientation experience which welcomes new and transfer students to the Pacific community. Interested students will be required to complete training in mid-August, as well as finalize safety certifications, such as CPR. OP offers several different type of trips, ranging from a rafting experience on the Deschutes River, sea kayaking on the Puget Sound, and a backpacking trip in the Umpqua Wilderness; a Voyage Leader would be interested in one or more of these trips, and be willing to participate in training before departing on the five-day adventure. Voyage leaders are responsible for a group of up to ten students during this five-day time frame, in which leaders will be paid a stipend ($325+) for their time and training.

Leaders are expected to be knowledgeable in one or more of the following activities and be willing to lead students: backpacking, sea kayaking, backpack/canoe, multi-element adventure, surfing, rock climbing, rafting, and local/urban adventures. Leaders are expected to work hard, be committed and altruistic role models, and be skilled facilitators of their respective activities. If you are interested in learning, growing, and training in order to enhance the Voyage experience, please review the Voyages Leader Job Description, and fill out a Voyages Application! To submit an application, or if you have any questions or concerns about this position, contact Justin Hall at justinhall@pacificu.edu.

For questions or concerns, OP staff is available by phone Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 503-352-2264 or by email at outdoors@pacificu.edu
