Getting to Pacific During #BigFixPDX

A major construction project on freeways in Portland — #BigFixPDX — is expected to cause significant traffic delays throughout the summer.

While the construction is about 30 miles from Pacific University’s nearest campuses, the project could impact those traveling to Pacific to visit or begin classes in July and August, particularly those driving from east of Portland or coming in from Portland International Airport. Likewise, traffic may also be significantly heavier for those patients heading to the Pacific Psychology & Comprehensive Health Clinic or Pacific EyeClinic in downtown Portland, or visitors to the MFA Office in the Pearl District.

Your best bet is always to check traffic reports in real time. The Oregon Department of Transportation also has a dedicated website for the project with the latest news, a project calendar, and an interactive map of closures and designated detours, as well as this handy printable brochure.

TriMet also offers a strong alternative, if public transportation is an option for your travels.

As an alternative, you might also try this driving route, avoiding major freeways between PDX and Pacific's Forest Grove and Hillsboro campuses.

To head south from the airport to campuses in Eugene and Woodburn, it’s likely best to avoid I-84 and I-5 all together and head south on I-205, while expecting significant delays.

The project began with closures July 8 and is expected to continue through Aug. 27.
