Great American Solar Eclipse is Historic in Nature

Much of America is geared up to celebrate the Great Eclipse of 2017.

But how rare is this event?

Pacific University Professor Todd Duncan, an expert on cosmic perspectives, explained to 1360 KUIK's Dave Bourne that while total solar eclipses are actually fairly common throughout the solar system, opportunities to view them on Earth are few and far between.

"There's always a solar eclipse somewhere, but usually the shadow doesn't fall on earth," Duncan said. "The eclipse is confined to the U.S. for the first time in the history of our country."
