Homecoming 2018 Briefing for the University Community

Hundreds of alumni are expected to return to campus for Homecoming 2018 – Oct. 18-21. We invite all members of the university community to join us in welcoming them home. We’ll host about 40 events over four days. This is a milestone year for all classes ending in 3 and 8. The Classes of 1968,  undergrad 1993, Occupational Therapy 1993, undergrad 1998 and undergrad 2008 will celebrate reunions. 

We also encourage everyone to cheer on our soccer and football teams in their competitions during the weekend.

This briefing should serve as reference guide to provide guidance on commonly asked questions, but we’re also available for questions by email, phone or in person.

Personal invitations to alumni, parents & friends

All members of the campus community are encouraged to invite alumni and others to attend Homecoming. Please direct all potential guests to register and pay at pacificu.edu/homecoming. Feel free to share information about Homecoming through any channel you regularly use.

How to register yourself to attend

Please begin by reviewing the Homecoming schedule and selecting events you would like to attend. Then you may register online for free events or to pay by credit card. 

To register and pay by Journal Entry (JE), please send an email to Bonnie Harris and Kylie Hepler. Please list each event you would like to attend and request a JE for the total cost. Funds may be transferred to 1-983-07061-7347.

Homecoming Welcome Center

During the weekend, we offer a Welcome Center for Homecoming guests. The Welcome Center is available in the University Center on Friday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. On Sat. Oct. 20, it will also be available 10 a.m. through halftime on the northwest patio of the Stoller Center. Guests can pick up essential materials at the Welcome Center before attending Homecoming events. They can also purchase Homecoming merchandise, register for additional events and update their alumni records at the Welcome Center.

The complete Homecoming schedule is available online. Most questions about Homecoming can be answered by reviewing the Homecoming web pages. Questions can also be directed to the Office of Alumni Relations.

Event locations

Event locations are not published in advance of the weekend to prevent confusion if locations need to change late in the planning process. Alumni need to check in at the Welcome Center to receive important information, including a Welcome Book containing information about the weekend -- with locations. 

If you encounter alumni who are confused about event locations, please direct them to the Welcome Center. If they have their Welcome Book you can show them the schedule with locations. Guests will also have their full weekend itinerary tucked in the back of their nametag. The itinerary includes everything for which they are registered – with locations.

Homecoming event staff

Additional staff support is greatly needed and appreciated. Employees may sign up online to join the Homecoming team.

Parking for Homecoming guests

Guests are provided a parking permit by email prior to their arrival on campus which they may use in any open-permit parking lot. They may also request a permit from the Homecoming Welcome Center in the University.

Guests with limited mobility

Many of our Homecoming guests have limited mobility. We offer a campus shuttle to aid assist them in navigating campus. The shuttle can be requested any time after 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 by calling 503-352-2057. Please call if you see guests who could use shuttle assistance.

Many, but not all, of our guests will have and use placards issued to citizens with a disability. Some guests who do not have a placard do have limited mobility. To make their visit more manageable and comfortable we reserve parking spaces for guests with limited mobility in one of the university lots. We thank the campus community for use of these spaces during the weekend.  Please encourage guests with limited mobility to use these spaces.

Photos of Homecoming

Photographers will document most events at Homecoming. Those photos will be available for guests to download or print from our Flickr site within a few weeks. All registered Homecoming guests will receive and email with information on how to access the photos. Photos of the Golden Guard induction ceremony and group photos will be printed and mailed to the Class of 1968. Additional printed photos can be provided upon request from alumni. 

Celebrating the Class of 1968 & the Golden Guard

On Friday, October 19, all members of the university community are invited to applaud the Class of 1968 and the Golden Guard as they parade past Marsh Hall on their way to Old College Hall to sign their names in the sidewalk. Please assemble outside Marsh Hall at 1:50 p.m. to prepare to applaud the group.

Athletic event tickets

Guests who purchased football tickets in advance may collect them at Will Call near the entrance to Hanson Stadium. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Box Office two hours prior to the game. Students and employees receive a free ticket which can be collected at Will Call.

Boxer III

A group of alumni, led by members of the Class of 1968, has commissioned a new Boxer statue. The artist who created the second Boxer statue in the early 1980s was hired last winter to craft a new version of our mascot statue. The latest version, created using dozens of high quality archival photos and the original tail, ear and foot for scale, will closely resemble the original statue, which arrived on campus in the late 1890s and has not been publicly seen on campus since 1969. The new statue, Boxer III, will be publicly unveiled at a rally in the center of campus on Friday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
