In Memoriam: Bruce McInnes
Bruce McInnes died on April 15, 2021 at age 85. McInnes began a life-long love of music as a choirboy in New York City, and served as the dean of Pacific University's School of Music from 1985 to 1988. Before joining Pacific, he enjoyed a 21-year career at Amherst College where he taught, directed choral music and eventually chaired the Music department. McInnes spent the last 15 years in Farmington, Maine, where he directed the chorus at the University of Maine, Farmington and the Choir at the First Congregational Church. His principal musical commitment over the past 25 years was to Mastersingers USA, which he founded and directed. A group of 50-100 singers, Mastersingers comes together once a year either for a long weekend reunion in an American city, or tours throughout Europe.
McInnes was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marylyn McInnes, two nephews, a niece, and several cousins.
