A Message to Employees from President Hallick

In these unprecedented times, I am so proud to see the Pacific community in action. It is awe-inspiring to witness our faculty and staff community unite to support our students and one another in creative, generous ways. Employees are the heart and soul of this university, and your unwavering dedication to the Pacific mission is in full demonstration. Each of you is providing a valuable service to the university, and the leadership team absolutely recognizes your contributions. The wellbeing of our faculty and staff team members is always at the forefront of our minds, and that will continue as we assess the next best steps for our Pacific University community.

We understand that the current environment is stressful on all university employees, both personally and professionally. With the shift in university operations, it is natural for employees to have questions about the security of their positions. To help ease the uncertainty and acknowledge the importance of each of our employees and their unique situations, the university is committing to:

  • Maintaining pay and benefits, for all benefit-eligible employees, regardless of how or when operations and schedules are modified, through June 30, 2020. “Benefit-eligible” means faculty who work at least 62.5% of full-time and staff who work at least 1,040 hours per year
  • Maintaining pay for all non-benefit eligible employees who are able to continue their assigned work, through June 30, 2020.
  • Providing extra paid leave for those who have exhausted their paid leave hours through 14 days of Emergency Medical Leave (EML).
  • Working with adjunct faculty to postpone teaching that is unable to be conducted prior to June 30, 2020.

It is understood that you are all managing a number of unexpected and unpredictable circumstances. To further assist in supporting health and stress management, we encourage you to take advantage of the university’s health and wellness offerings

Thank you to all for working tirelessly to fulfill our mission each and every day. It is greatly appreciated.

Warmest Regards,

Lesley M. Hallick
