New MSW Program Offers Needed Skills

Pacific University's new master of social work program is preparing students to work in high-need areas.

The program, launched this fall at Pacific's Eugene Campus, offers students tracks in Latino Studies and in Health and Wellness. All students, however, will take courses to learn conversational Spanish, as well as to gain an understanding of Latino culture.

Cristina Delgado, who works with Adelante Chicas in the Forest Grove area, is hoping to earn her master's in social work.

"Nowadays, we are really lacking culturally competent social workers," she recently told the Forest Grove Leader.
