Pacific University Remembers Faculty Emeritus Dr. Paul Kohl '80

The College of Optometry will host a celebration of life in memory of Dr. Paul Kohl ’80, faculty emeritus, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the Multipurpose Room in the University Center. All are welcome to attend.

Dr. Kohl died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, following a long battle with cancer. He was part of the Pacific University family for more than 30 years. He earned his doctorate in optometry here in 1980 and, in 1980-1981, became the first teaching fellow in the College of Optometry.

He went on to become a tenured faculty member and receive the Pacific University Distinguished Professional Faculty Award, as well as the Pacific University Trustee Award to Young Faculty. He also served on several boards and committees at the university throughout his career.

He was a dedicated teacher, a close friend, and an open and caring man who took an interest in the lives of his students, colleagues and friends. His passion for teaching was immeasurable, and he took that love beyond the classroom, publishing several articles and providing presentations at continuing education conferences. He retired in 2011 and was awarded faculty emeritus status.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and children, Maja and Jesse. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations be made in his honor to the Pacific University College of Optometry.
