Pacific University Represented at 2018 Oregon Physical Therapy Association Conference

On March 10, the Oregon Physical Therapy Association (OPTA) had its Annual Conference in Wilsonville and our program was well represented by core and adjunct faculty, students, and alumni.

After the opening keynote by the Vice President of the American Physical Therapy Association, Dr. Lisa Saladin, PT, PhD, FAPTA, attendees were able to choose from a variety of breakout sessions. All program proposals were selected using a peer-reviewed process.

Core faculty member, Dr. Robert Nee, PT, PhD, MAppSc presented two 1-hour sessions: 1) An Evidence-Informed Approach to Neurodynamics – Part I: Examination and 2) An Evidence-Informed Approach to Neurodynamics – Part II: Treatment. His presentations provided an evidence-informed review of the validity of using neurodynamic tests for detecting nerve-related pain and neurodynamic treatment for musculoskeletal conditions that have a component of increased nerve mechanosensitivity. Dr. Nee teaches the Musculoskeletal Examination and Intervention courses for the Spine (DPT632) and Extremities (DPT633).   

Core faculty member, Dr. Brian Wilkinson, PT, DPT, CHT, CLT presented on “Current Concepts in Wrist Rehabilitation: A Paradigm Shift in Exercise Prescription”. His 1-hour presentation provided exercise prescription and progression recommendations for several common upper extremity conditions. Dr. Wilkinson is the Associate Director of Clinical Education and teaches in Physical Agents and Mechanical Modalities (DPT530), Clinical Biomechanics I (DPT510), and Clinical Biomechanics II (DPT511).

Alumnus Dr. Jason Brumitt, PT, PhD, ATC, CSCS '99 presented “You Have a Story to Tell: A Guide to Writing Case Reports.” Dr. Brumitt is the Interim Director of Athletic Training and an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at George Fox University.

Adjunct faculty member, Dr. Clare Lewis, PT, DPT, PsyD, MTC, FAAOMPT presented a poster on her research project entitled “Within Subject Design, Analysis of a Tool Designed to Perform Spinal Joint Mobilization.” Dr. Lewis teaches Psychosocial Aspects of Illness and Disability (DPT670).

Alumnus Dr. Tyler Cuddeford, PT, PhD '92 received the Mercedes Weiss Service Award, which was established in 1976 by the OPTA to publicly acknowledge the outstanding contribution of members of the profession. Dr. Cuddeford is the Director of the Physical Therapy Program at George Fox University.

After the conference, attendees from across the state stayed to help celebrate Pacific Unviersity Physical Therapy Program’s 40th Anniversary.
