Here are some highlights from Pacific University sports news for January 2015.
Swimmers Netting Multiple Awards
Pacific’s swim program has opened January with a number of athletes picking up conference and national awards. After picking up men’s and women’s team victories over the College of Idaho on Jan. 10, the Northwest Conference recognized Jack Lloyd and Rachel Webster as their Men’s & Women’s Swimming Student-Athletes of the Week. In addition, Webster was selected by the website Women Play Ball at their Division III Athlete of the Week. Pacific will close their home schedule with a dual meet on Fri., Jan. 23, vs. Willamette. Cook, Grandinetti Named Boxer Club Student-Athletes of the Month
Basketball players Olivia Cook and Riley Grandinetti were selected as December’s Boxer Club Student-Athletes of the Month. Cook led the women’s basketball team through December, averaging 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game through five games, with a high of 17 points against New Hope Christian on Dec. 16. Grandinetti averaged 14.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in four games for the Pacific men and shot 51 percent from both the field and three-point range.
Boxer Club Winter Social Upcoming
Boxer Club, the booster club for Pacific University athletics, is hosting their winter basketball social on Fri., Feb. 6, during the Boxers’ women’s and men’s basketball games vs. Puget Sound. Watch the games live and in the Boxer Learning Center and enjoy food, beverages and fellowship with fellow Boxer fans. The event is free of charge, but RSVP is required. Hall of Fame Nominations Open
Nominations are now open for the 2015 class of the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame. Nominations are accepted for athletes, coaches, teams and significant contributors who have made a great impact on the vast history of Pacific University athletics. The nomination deadline is Apr. 15, with induction scheduled for Homecoming weekend in October. Visit the Hall of Fame page for nomination criteria and a nomination form.
