The Center for Civic Engagement is encouraging Oregon voters to participate in the upcoming Oregon election on Nov. 7, 2017.

As a college student, you may choose whether to vote in Oregon or as an absentee resident of your home state, whichever you now consider home.

Voting in Oregon

Oregon votes by mail. You may register here in Washington County, or, if your permanent residence is in another Oregon county, at that address, whichever you choose.  You can also choose to have your ballot mailed to you on campus but have your vote count at your permanent address (which may also have different options for local candidates or measures).

Effective Jan. 1, 2016 under the Oregon Motor Voter Act, all Oregonians with an Oregon Driver's License from the DMV will automatically be registered to vote as "unaffiliated." You should receive an Oregon Motor Voter (OMV) card from the Oregon Elections Division in the mail that will give you the option of registering with a specific political party (Democratic, Independent, Republican, etc.) as well as the option to opt-out of voter registration entirely. Once you receive the OMV Card, you have 21 days to return it with your preferences selected. All changes after those 21 days must be made in writing or in person to your local county clerk's office.

Remember that Oregon's Primary Election is closed - meaning that, in order to vote in the Republican Primary, you must be registered as a Republican (or a Democrat for the Democratic Primary, etc.).

In order to vote in Oregon's Nov. 7, 2017 election, the final day to register to vote with a specific party is Oct. 17, 2017. You can update your voter registration information or register to vote in Oregon online.
