Tutoring & Learning Center Relaunches as Center for Learning and Student Success in September

Effective Sept. 10, 2018, the Tutoring and Learning Center in Pacific Hall will relaunch as the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) and will reside in the Tran Library.

Led by Josie Ragolia, who joined the Pacific University Libraries in July as its first Student Success Librarian, CLASS aims to improve student success by providing a welcoming environment in which students can work toward their academic goals with peer support. Located on the second floor of the Tran Library overlooking the lobby, the new CLASS space allows for individual tutoring, group tutoring, and guided study sessions for students. Beginning in Spring 2019, students and peer tutors will also be able to reserve new two-person study rooms in the Tran Library.

CLASS will have tutors available from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The center’s new online scheduling system, which goes live in September, will allow students to know exactly when a tutor for their desired subject area or a specific course is available. Students will be able reserve tutoring sessions in advance (or last-minute, as well), so they can plan tutoring sessions around their regular class schedules, while practicing time management. While students can sign into the system from anywhere, a kiosk will be available at the front desk of the Tran Library for quick, walk-in access.

The online system will also include chat and video/audio conference capability, which supports the Libraries’ plans to expand access to CLASS resources and services to students across all campuses and programs. Going forward, the center will also offer workshops and sessions for students needing more general support with things like study skills, time management, and goal setting.

Students and faculty are encouraged to stop by the Tran Library or connect with Josie to learn more about CLASS.
