University Community Invited to Film Screening of 'More Than A Month' on Friday Evening
The Pacific University Black Student Union invites students, faculty and staff to the Multipurpose Room on the lower level of the University Center at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 to view a screening of Shukree Hassan Tilghman's documentary More than a Month.
Tilghman sets out on a cross-country campaign to end Black History Month, arguing that relegating the event to the coldest, shortest month of the year is an insult, and that black history is not separate from American history.
Following the documentary, a panel of seven successful African-Americans will discuss themes of microaggressions and individual responsibility to dismantle inequitable institutions.
The focus of these events, in collaboration with Omnipresence and The Black Body Politic, is to put into perspective the prevalence of racial discrimination in our everyday lives and highlight the persistence of Black excellence in the face of systematic oppression.
