A music scholarship at Pacific opened artistic doors for Leiana Petlewski ’21 and helped ignite their creative passion. Leiana plays the cello in the symphonic orchestra and is a member of the dance ensemble. Now a junior, Petlewski is majoring in applied theatre and dance.

Frances Clapp
Frances Clapp ’08 — that is, 1908 — was a revered figure from the turn of the last century. She was a skilled pianist who appeared in many musical programs from the era, playing Chopin, Beethoven, Grieg, Rubinstein, Bach and other composers.
Music in May Concert
The concert is a culmination of three days of fun, yet intense, instruction and practice for aspiring young musicians under the direction of distinguished music faculty.
Pacific will host a high school chamber ensembles contest on Friday, April 26 and a high school musician solo competition on Saturday, April 27.
A surge in students pursuing music degrees at Pacific University over the past decade is expected to continue this fall.

When Elijah Pine ’21 first visited Pacific University, he was one of hundreds of high school students attending the yearly Music in May festival. The experience shaped his life in ways he could not have imagined.

Michael Burch-Pesses, Pacific University's longtime director of bands, is the 2018 winner of the Oregon Music Education Association's John C. McManus Distinguished Teacher Award. 
Goldfish Don't Eat Pizza Book Cover
A musician, former television news writer and current doctoral psychology graduate student in Pacific University’s School of Professional Psychology, Anna Antonia Giedwoyn, ’13 has also put together a children’s musical CD called Goldfish Don't Eat Pizza. She performed at Posh Baby in Portland last February.
