Pacific Senior Skyler Erben has parlayed his experience with the Pacific Impact Fund into a new opportunity after graduation. 
Dr. Elizabeth Tavares, assistant professor of English literature at Pacific University, has received an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship of $3,500 to conduct research this summer at the Huntington Library in San Marino, Calif.

Students from the Master of Social Work program participated in a two-week winter immersion program in Guatemala with professor Michele Eggers. Students received five hours of Spanish language instruction every day and resided with Guatemalan host families.

Women of the South African Math Workshop
Pacific University Professor Nancy Neudauer recently returned from South Africa, where she organized and administered an African Institute for Mathematical Sciences workshop titled “Women in Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications.”
Three members of Pacific University exercise science faculty were granted tenure in March 2018. They were among six faculty members university-wide to receive the distinction.
The W.M. Keck Foundation recently awarded the College of Arts & Sciences a multi-year $200,000 grant to establish an innovative new undergraduate research program in the School of Arts & Humanities. With this grant, the School of Arts & Humanities will develop and implement an Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Inquiry (URSCI) curriculum to offer research opportunities and benefits to every student in the school. Courses will be redesigned to include research methodologies unique to the arts and humanities, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and opportunities for students to disseminate their scholarly work.

Zoey Mendoza Zimmerman '95 lived through the worst a parent can imagine. In 2010, her husband shot and killed their two children and then himself. In the past five years, she has struggled to live with grief and open her heart to the future— while holding on to her children's memories and helping other grieving parents do the same.
