Vireak Chea PharmD '09 left his home in Cambodia at the age of 13, sent by his parents to the United States in hope of a better education and life. Today, after earning his PharmD as part of the Pacific University School of Pharmacy's first class in 2009, Chea is back in Cambodia, hoping to provide healthcare and education where it is most needed.

The Pacific University School of Pharmacy and the Oregon Board of Pharmacy have been involved in an ongoing implementation of a new regulatory affairs and academia fellowship — the first of its kind. The inaugural fellow is Tim Frost, who shared a bit about his experience in this Q&A. 
Dr. Halpern will travel to Japan in June to continue her study into invasive species and the role herbivorous insects play.
A discussion in the School of Pharmacy Journal Club two years ago has resulted in the publication of an article on the adverse effects of prolonged antibiotic use. Dr. Henry Saedi-Kwon designed the study prior to his graduation in 2016; Dr. R. Brigg Turner recruited third-year student Erin Wilson to work alongside the rest of the research team during her APPE rotations. The article “Comparative analysis of neutropenia in patients receiving prolonged treatment with ceftaroline” appears in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (DOI: 10.1093/jac/dkx452).
The college will launch two education programs at the Forest Grove Campus for Chinese-based physicians and optometry students to treat a high prevalence of nearsightedness there.
Dr. Rebecca Reisch recently published a study titled “Overactive Bladder Symptoms in Female Health Profession Students: Bladder Diary Characteristics and Impact of Symptoms on Health-Related Quality of Life” in the Journal of Women’s Health. 
The Pacific University Speech & Debate Team hosted 23 colleges and universities on the Forest Grove Campus for the Fred Scheller Invitational, Jan. 26-28.
