Testing Accommodations | Accessibility & Accommodation

**The TPP, Suite D testing site in Hillsboro is only staffed when testing is scheduled.  The OAA Services staff offices are located on the Forest Grove campus, Clark Hall, 2nd floor, rooms 226 & 227A.  Kim only travels to the TPP testing site for scheduled exams and is otherwise at the OAA office in Clark Hall. **

For In-Person Exams:

How to schedule exams with extended time

After you have received the OAA Accommodation Notification for the current semester, discuss with your professor(s) your extra time accommodation and any other information that you think will be helpful to them. Determine with your instructor if extended time exams are best administered by them, or by OAA Services.   If you plan to take your exams at OAA Services, please let your instructor(s) know at the start of the semester.

  • If you and your professor prefer you have your exams proctored by OAA Services:
    • For Forest Grove students this takes place in Clark Hall, 2nd floor, check-in at room 226;
    • For Hillsboro students this will take place at the Tuality Professional Plaza (TPP), Suite D (730 SE Oak St) unless you are notified otherwise)**.
      • Be sure to make arrangements with the OAA at least a week in advance so that we'll know in advance if we'll have a room and staff available to proctor you.  In cases where the OAA is unable to proctor you at the TPP, we will make arrangements with your academic program to provide your testing accommodations.
  • Some professors like you to go to the classroom or their office early for a "head start" on the exam, or may be willing to stay longer after the class
  • Some professors have access to a separate room near the classroom which they can monitor while administering the exam to the class

 To schedule an exam to be administered at OAA Services, call or email  OAA Services (oaa@contact.pacificu.edu) providing the dates and times of your upcoming exams.  Kim will email a confirmation to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken at OAA Services.

To take Exams with use of a Computer

If you have an accommodation requiring use of a computer during an otherwise non computer exam (ie. for use of speech-to-text, typing response, spell-check, other) you must schedule the accommodated exam at least one-week in advance to ensure the OAA has the necessary equipment available to accommodate you.

  • Again, be sure to schedule your exams with the OAA at least a week in advance so that we're sure to have a room and a computer for you!  Kim will email a reminder notice to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken at the OAA.
    • For Forest Grove students this takes place in Clark Hall, 2nd floor, check-in at room 226;
  • The professor may prefer that you take the exam near the classroom, using your or his/her equipment which is fine if that is what works best for both of you.

To Take an Exam in a Segregated Space/Low Distraction

Even if this accommodation is mentioned on the OAA Accommodation Notification shared with you and your professor, please let your instructor(s) know at the start of the semester if you plan to take your exams at the OAA.

  • For exams to be administered at the OAA, please schedule the exam day and time with us at least a week in advance so that we're sure to have a room for you!  Kim will email a reminder notice to you and your professor a week or so before each exam scheduled to be taken in the OAA.
    • For Forest Grove students this takes place in Clark Hall, 2nd floor, check-in at room 226;

For Online Exams:

Students, in preparation for online, timed, exams or quizzes for which you wish to use your extended test time accommodation, once you have received updated syllabi from your professors, you will need to email your professor providing them the following in your request

  • Course number and section number (ie. BIOL-456-01)
  • Exam date
  • Scheduled exam/quiz start & end time (if known)
  • Time and a half, or double time accommodation
  • If you need an early start, or alternative test time, so that your exam/quiz does not overlap another course or exam.

Example of how your email might read:

“Hi Professor G, I would like to use my exam accommodations for the test next week: BIOL-456-01 on 4/10; 9:15 a.m.-10:20 a.m. I have time and a half accommodation, and will need to start at 8:40 a.m. because I have another class meeting at 10:30 a.m.”

** OAA Services does not have any access to control exam time limits set in Moodle/ExamSoft/other platforms. Only your course professors have ability to do that.  It will be very important for you to have clear and ongoing communication with your course professors regarding your extended time accommodation. **

Important:  If your accommodations includes an Exam Reader, Scribe or other testing accommodations that you will need during your test other than extended time, you must copy oaa@contact.pacificu.edu on your email to your professor.  In order to provide those accommodations, OAA Services will request a copy of the exam from the instructor, and connect with you directly via Zoom during your scheduled exam time in order to provide these  Reader, Scribe, other services.

Faculty, in preparation for online, timed, exams or quizzes for which OAA registered students with testing accommodations wish to use their extended test time, we are asking those students to email their course professor and provide the following:

  • Course number and section number (ie. BIOL-456-01)
  • Exam date
  • Scheduled exam/quiz start & end time (if known)
  • Time and a half, or double time accommodation
  • If they need an early start, or alternative test time, so their exam/quiz does not overlap another course or exam.

Please ensure that the exam time limit set in Moodle (or other platform used) for that student includes their extended testing time.

Example of how the student email might read:

“Hi Professor G, I would like to use my exam accommodations for the test next week: BIOL-456-01 on 4/10; 9:15 a.m.-10:20 a.m. I have time and a half accommodation, and will need to start at 8:40 a.m. because I have another class meeting at 10:30 a.m.”

Important: Distance Learning students whose accommodations include an Exam Reader, Scribe or other testing accommodations needed during their test (in addition to extended time), are instructed to copy oaa@contact.pacificu.edu on their email to their professor. In order to provide those accommodations, OAA Services will request a copy of the exam from you, and connect with the student during their scheduled exam time via Zoom to provide these requested Reader, Scribe, other services.
