Tips for a Successful Tutoring Session
Don’t wait until the last minute to come in
Be sure to leave plenty of time for follow-up appointments and independent work before your exam or assignment is due. Tutoring is often most effective with repeated visits over the course of a semester. Tutors are here to help you with strategies and guidance and you should expect to continue studying or working on your assignment after your session.
Decide what you want to work on
Clarify your goals before your appointment, and bring a list of any questions or concerns that you have. Knowing what you need helps our tutors help you!
Bring any needed materials to your appointment
Gather drafts, notes, syllabi, assignments, textbooks, and any other course materials related to what you would like to work on with the tutor. Coming prepared with your course materials makes for a more productive tutoring session.
Be ready to describe what you’ve been working on
Your tutor will want to know what you've been doing in your class, and how you've been approaching your coursework. This helps your tutor get a sense for how they can best assist you.
Be on time!
Arriving on time is a common courtesy and will ensure that you benefit from the full time of your appointment. If you do not arrive within 10 minutes of your scheduled time, your appointment will be forfeited and you’ll be marked as a no-show.
