The Pacific University MAT in STEM/ESOL Teacher Residency Program is specifically for candidates earning their first teaching license with endorsements in biology, chemistry, physics, integrated science, and/or mathematics (foundational or advanced). See how the Pacific MAT STEM/ESOL Program compares with other Oregon programs.

Our nationally unique program combines endorsements in middle- and high-school science and math, as well as ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). It is a 12-month (three-semester) program with all courses, clinical practice and student teaching taking place at our Woodburn Campus and in the Woodburn School District, located in one of Oregon’s fastest growing and most diverse communities, just 30 minutes from downtown Portland and Salem.

In the Pacific MAT STEM/ESOL Program you will serve as a part of the Woodburn School District teaching team from the first day of the school year to the last. Courses in our clinical program are designed and taught as a partnership between veteran Woodburn teachers and Pacific faculty, driven by the desire to innovate and improve student learning in the real classroom.

In the Pacific MAT STEM/ESOL program you will become an ambitious, culturally proficient teacher ready to lead your first classroom on day one.

You will be part of a dedicated STEM cohort of 12 to 15 fellow teaching candidates, as you work toward three endorsements: math, science and ESOL. Many of our students qualify for the National Science Foundation Pacific Noyce Scholarship to fund their program, and we enjoy a more than 95 percent employment success rate after program completion.
