Since 2006, the Pacific University School of Pharmacy has provided a high-quality doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) education, with the only accelerated, three-year PharmD program in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Starting Fall 2023, the School will launch a new on-campus, five-year extended PharmD pathway. The program has received ACPE approval, and is accepting applications for inaugural class for Fall 2023.

Through Pacific’s PharmD program, you can become a trained pharmacist making a difference in the lives of patients in a variety of healthcare settings. Choose the format that fits your life; both PharmD pathways share the same dedicated faculty, student-centered curriculum, and robust clinical experiences.

We are proud to offer the only accelerated, three-year PharmD program in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, and the only extended five-year pathway in the U.S.

How to Apply

Accelerated PharmD Program

The PharmD program at Pacific is a three-year program that begins with two years of didactic coursework, followed by a third year devoted entirely to advanced clinical experience. The PharmD program at Pacific University was established in 2006 and the first class graduated in 2009.  The three-year program is fully accredited by the ACPE and is designed to meet the educational requirements for graduates to take the NAPLEX and MPJE board examinations. The program prepares students to apply for a pharmacist license, which is required for employment in a patient care setting, and is sufficient to meet licensure requirements in all 50 states to practice as a registered pharmacist.

Extended PharmD Pathway

The five-year pathway is an extended version of our accelerated three-year PharmD pathway and increases flexibility for learners, making a PharmD education accessible for different needs, challenges, and paths in life. Due to the extended pathway length and overall design, each total semester course load is significantly reduced, allowing for more time outside of school for employment, family, personal study time, and engagement in extracurricular activities and community involvement. The unique, extended five-year PharmD pathway allows you to earn your PharmD for the same cost of a traditional or accelerated program, with the cost of the degree divided over the five years. The five-year pathway is fully accredited by the ACPE.

PharmD Curriculum

We believe in the quality and flexibility of our PharmD curriculum, which has been designed to prepare our students to be practice-, team- and career-ready. The contemporary and semester-based curriculum connects scientific and clinical concepts to clinical reasoning in order to deliver direct patient care. At Pacific, we emphasize the integration of concepts, as well as teamwork and collaboration among students.

Pharmacy Program in Oregon

The Pacific University School of Pharmacy is located at our Hillsboro Campus, just a short drive or light-rail ride from Portland, Ore. Located in downtown Hillsboro’s Health & Education District, the campus is home to Pacific’s College of Health Professions, where PharmD students interact closely with other dedicated students focused on graduate and professional programs in healthcare fields. Students who earn their PharmD at Pacific are prepared to be patient-focused, career-ready clinicians who provide healthcare as members of an interprofessional team. In addition, the state of Oregon recognizes pharmacists as health care providers. By getting your PharmD at Pacific University in Oregon you will be prepared to practice at the top of your pharmacy licensure.

Outside of class, students enjoy the environment of the Pacific Northwest, with easy access to the Oregon Coast, Cascade Mountains and the cultural amenities of downtown Portland.

It is pharmacy postgraduate Residency Match season and the national results are in for both the first and second phases of the Match. On March 13th and April 10th, our PharmD Class of 2024 and alumni achieved a combined match rate of 90% for Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) National Matching System (NMS)-listed programs. This continues the strong performance of last year. These are wonderful results when nearly 50% of the graduating class will be pursuing postgraduate education.

In July 2023, Dr. Nathan Doctor joined our faculty team here at a Pacific University School of Pharmacy. Now that one full semester has gone by and we're now mid-way through spring semester, we thought we'd catch up with him, ask him a few questions and find out how things are going!

We believe that international experiences help our Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students at Pacific University School of Pharmacy develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to broaden their horizons related to differences in healthcare between the U.S. and other countries, immerse in a different culture and language, and explore understandings of health, thus providing them an invaluable opportunity to grow as global healthcare professionals.
