Global Scholars Pathway Requirements

Globalize Your Major with International and Diverse Perspectives

The Global Scholars Program is a four-year pathway that brings international and diverse perspectives to whatever you plan to study. The Global Scholars pathway complements any major. You can complete the Global Scholars pathway with as few as 17 additional credits, including study abroad, by double-dipping Global Scholars requirements with your core and major requirements. 

 

Courses and Requirements

Year 1

HUM 100: Global Scholars First Year Seminar
Enroll in a special internationally-focused section of first year seminar. Complete the required application to request your spot. 
(Special opportunity for incoming first-year students - not required for the Global Scholars Pathway)

HUM 101: Global Explorations
Study abroad in January with your FYS faculty and student cohort to learn first-hand about the FYS topic. Available only to Global Scholars FYS students. (Special opportunity for incoming first-year students - not required for the Global Scholars Pathway)

WORL 101, 102: World Language 
Gain basic fluency in a second language with a 102 or higher-level course in Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, or ASL. You may also demonstrate equivalent proficiency in these or other languages by petition and proficiency exam. (Included in core requirements)

Year 2

HUM 201: Global Scholars Seminar
Develop a plan to integrate international and diverse perspectives into your degree and to improve your intercultural competence. Offered in the spring. (Required - 2 credits)

Years 2-4

International and Diverse Perspectives Across the Curriculum

NEW Complete 6-12 additional IDP credits within 3 separate course subjects.  You are encouraged to to satisfy this requirement within Core and major requirements (i.e. double-dip).

2023-2024 IDP + CORE Exploration Courses (pdf)

Year 3

Global Experience 
NEW Complete 6 credits of study abroad, short-term travel courses, or IDP-focused internship or practicum. (Required - 6 credits)

HUM 311, 312, 312: Global Skills I, II, III
Transform your global experience with these before-during-after study abroad support courses. (Required - 4 credits)

Year 4

HUM 401: Global Scholars Capstone Portfolio 
Incorporate international and diverse perspectives into your senior capstone project. (Required - 1 credit)

 

Global Scholars Graduates
Earn public acknowledgment at graduation of your successful completion of the Global Scholars Program pathway and a Global Scholars notation on your university transcript. Speak confidently about global perspectives at your next job interview.
