Orientation

Orientation staff in front of football fieldWe are very excited you are joining our community and can’t wait to welcome you in person. This year has brought some unique challenges to all of us as individuals and to the university at large, however, we have been meeting and making plans to ensure that your arrival and Orientation experience is great!

While there are still a number of things we are working to figure out, we want to provide you with as much information that we have as of today so you can make plans for your campus arrival. Prior to this communication, many of you were told or heard that Orientation, which includes move-in (among many other things) would be from August 27-30. While still true, Orientation will look different than initially planned so that we may adhere to COVID-19 safety requirements and recommendations.

Please Note:If you are an athlete, voyage participant, or student from Hawaii your date of arrival will be different and is listed below. You will receive additional information from these groups soon about specifics. Athletics will be hosting a town hall for new student athletes on 7/2/2020 to provide details.

In accordance with state guidance, we have adjusted our plans to minimize the number of people convening at any time. You’ll see small group gatherings and people maintaining distance of six feet apart. We’ve also adjusted our residence hall move-in process so that move-in will occur on multiple days with reduced numbers of people moving in during each time slot. All of these changes are designed to help keep you and your family safe when you come to campus.

What it will look like:

  • All students, including those living off-campus, will check-in at a centralized location upon their initial arrival to the Forest Grove campus.
    • All students will be required to provide information and will be receiving a welcome kit.
    • Residential Students (students living in campus housing) will be directed to their individual residence hall with specific directions after this check in.
  • Move-in will be on a rolling schedule
  • You will be required to sign up for a 2 hour move in time slot. The sign-up form will be sent to you around July 20th.
  • Each student will be able to bring up to 2 adults who are able to help move their student’s belongings to their rooms. Additional moving helpers won’t be available this year.
  • We will be providing a list of motel/hotels that we have reserved a group rate. See Orientation website for more details.

  • For those family members who will be assisting their student on-campus during the August 26-29 time frame of when your student signs up, we will be providing a 1-hour presentation on the day of your arrival. This will be provided on a rolling basis throughout the day according to when your students’ time to check-in to Orientation is scheduled.
  • We ask that once you have moved your student into their residence hall, attended your Orientation presentation (optional), and have run any last-minute errands, that you say your goodbyes and not return to campus during the rest of the week.
