Welcome to the Boxer Family. You have been an integral part of assisting your incoming student(s) as they have navigated their way to becoming a Boxer. Whether it is your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, spouse, or friend, sending them off to college is a big transition for all of you. Our goal in Orientation is to assist you through the beginning stages of this transition.
Depending on when your student arrives to the university, you have different options available to you. We highly encourage you to attend at least one orientation. If you choose to attend an early arrival orientation, you are welcome to attend the larger extended one as well.
Attend an early arrival Orientation for the following groups:
- Football | TBA
- Fall Athletics/Voyages | TBA
Attend the larger Parent/Family Orientation | August 22nd-23rd
- New Student Orientation for all students is Aug. 22-25. Freshman Orientation is 4 days in length. Transfer Orientation is 2-4 days (2 days mandatory for all transfers and specific sessions required for those living on campus on day 3 and 4. Highly recommended all transfers attend all 4 days).
When students arrive they will begin their academic career immediately and that includes learning how to navigate all the systems outside the classroom. Many family members expect to spend a lot of time with their student helping them move in, getting settled and attending sessions together. Although we do provide time for helping them move in and getting somewhat settled, this is not the main focus of Orientation programming. Much of your time will not be together as you have a different schedule than your student. Programming for the family goes from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 9a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. You will see this in the schedule provided below. Then at 8:30 p.m. on Friday you will give them a hug and send them off as they continue to embark on their new adventure.
Now that you have a better understanding of your schedule vs. your student’s schedule, please “RSVP” so we have a better understanding of who will be attending and which sessions we need to have larger spaces to accommodate everyone. You are always welcome to change your mind about attending a session when you arrive. *Remember if you have a student beginning with an early arrival, you are welcome to do both Orientations. If you are unable to attend, we fully understand. You can always call and ask a question to get a referral by contacting Student Life at 503-352-2200.
There are three separate categories to register within because of differing schedules. If you will be attending the early arrival Orientation and the extended Orientation, please register for both.
- family of early arrival students (fall sports, voyages)
- family of incoming freshmen
- family of transfer students
Even if your plans change, please still come and please still register. This does not “lock you in” to any sessions, it just gives us a headcount.
If your student is coming for an Early Arrival, please register by TBA
If you student is coming for regular Orientation on August 22, please register by TBA
