Welcome to Pacific University! We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant community. New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to help you transition smoothly into university life. Please review the schedule below and take note of important dates and activities. Please note that while the schedule details (including titles, location, etc.) are subject to change, the main dates are confirmed. 

Key Dates

Early Arrivals for Specific Groups:

  • Football: August 14
  • Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Spirit Squad: August 16
  • International Programs: August 18, 20, 21

New Student Orientation: 

  • First-Year students: August 22 - 25
  • Transfer students: August 22 - 25 
  • Parent & Families: August 22 - 23 

Orientation Overview

August 22 - 25: New Student Orientation

Participation in NSO is a requirement of matriculation to Pacific University. Over these four days, you will engage in a variety of required sessions and optional social activities. These programs are designed to introduce you to campus resources, academic expectations, and the Pacific University community.

Required Sessions
These sessions are mandatory for all new students and cover essential information to ensure a successful start at Pacific University. Details will be provided in the materials closer to Orientation. Key sessions include:

  • Orientation Check-in for Students & Families
  • New Student Move-in
  • Convocation & Presidential Welcome
  • First-Year Communities (for first-year students) or Transfer Support Services Sessions (for transfer students)
  • Advising session
  • Building community sessions 
  • Academic prep workshops 
  • Mental health and wellness presentations
  • Consent workshop
  • Dining session

Optional Social Activities
While these activities are not mandatory, they are highly encouraged as they provide excellent opportunities to meet fellow students and start building your Pacific University network. Events include:

  • Sign, Shake and Ring
  • Red & Black Scrimmage
  • Finder Keepers Free Store Pop Up
  • ComedySportz @ PACU
  • Dodgeball Tournament 
  • Silent Book Club
  • Houseplanting
  • & so much more!

Parent & Family Programming: August 22 & 23

We recognize the important role that families play in the success of our students. Our Parent & Family Programming is designed to provide parents and guardians with information and resources to support their students during their time at Pacific University and we invite you to join us on August 22 and 23, 2024. Schedule Highlights:

Thursday, August 22:

  • Orientation Check-in for Students & Families
  • New Student Move-in
  • College 101 Sessions, Tours, and Activities
  • Hawai'i Outreach And Programming
  • Hispanic / Latinx Outreach and Programming
  • Exploring Grad Professions: Hillsboro Campus Tour & Pacific Priority Discussion with Graduate Admissions Team

Friday, August 23:

  • Convocation & Presidential Welcome
  • Welcome Brunch
  • Informational sessions for parents 
  • Parent mixer 
  • Sign, Shake and Ring (and Sweet Send-Offs)

Students and families are encouraged to say your final goodbyes at Sign, Shake and Ring on Friday; this concludes the Family Orientation Program. Parent & family programming ends by 6:00 p.m.
