Three Paths to Pacific for Fall 2020*

There is no question that we are in unusual times. We recognize that families are making difficult decisions with incomplete and uncertain information. Be assured that, as an admitted undergraduate student, you are part of our Boxer family and we are ready to support your start at Pacific, no matter what that start looks like.

We believe in the power of a college education to change lives, and we know that a college education remains a great investment in your future. By enrolling in classes at Pacific University this fall, you take an important step toward your future.

In order to minimize the potential for exposure to the COVID-19 virus, we are limiting off-campus travel during the fall semester. All undergraduates in Forest Grove will finish their in-person coursework at Thanksgiving. Final exams will be conducted online after the Thanksgiving break and students will not return to campus until the start of the next term.

For Fall 2020, you can join Pacific three different ways.

1. Come to Campus

We are planning a return to face-to-face learning on our Forest Grove Campus this fall. We are excited to see students and faculty working together again. We are making changes on campus and to our schedules to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission. While campus life will not be exactly what it was a year ago, it will still be campus life with face-to-face interaction with faculty, staff and fellow students and friends.

2. Study Remotely in Fall 2020

For some students and families, there may be circumstances that make joining on-campus life in the fall impossible. These students will need to submit a Fall 2020 Remote Instruction Request form by June 15, 2020. We will offer your courses remotely for the entire fall term or until whatever point in the semester that you feel ready for you to return to campus, whether that is in October or January.

3. Defer Enrollment until Spring Semester

For some families, the combination of COVID-19 and the bad economy means that attending any college in the fall feels out of reach. If your family is in this situation, please let us know so we can work with you. Our first goal will be to see if there is anything we can do to make either Pathway 1 or 2, above, possible for your family.  If not, we will review your options for deferral until spring.

We realize that these are difficult decisions and that you are facing these decisions in a time of great uncertainty. You do not have to make these decisions alone. Of course, we would like to see you at Pacific in the fall, but more importantly we want what is best for you. Call your Admissions Counselor today to discuss your options.

* Pacific University will follow the recommendations and requirements for higher education in Oregon as published by the Office of the Governor.
