Audiology Program Prerequisites

Minimum Required Coursework for Admissions

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher and taken on a graded basis unless the course was switched to pass-fail grading by an institution in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, all prerequisite courses must be completed before the program begins in August if admitted into the program; courses do not need to be completed before applying to the program or do not need to be completed before the application deadline.

Biological Science | 3 semester hours/4 quarter hours

At least one biology course is required. Must be an introduction course or higher. May include: general biology, human anatomy & physiology, micro/macro-biology, cellular biology, neuroanatomy, genetics, or other similar biology topics. (NOT accepted: an SLP/CSD department course such as anatomy and physiology of speech).

*Science courses must have been taken within the last 7 years from the start of the program in August. 

Physical Science | 3 semester hours/4 quarter hours

At least one comprehensive physics or chemistry course is required. May include general physics with or without lab, general chemistry with or without lab, or higher. (NOT accepted: an SLP/CSD department course).

*Astronomy, Cosmology, and Geology courses do not fall under our physical science requirement.

*Science courses must have been taken within the last 7 years from the start of the program in August. 

Statistics | 3 semester hours/4 quarter hours

One statistics course required. May include: introduction or general statistics or statistics within a psychology/social science/mathematics department.

Social Sciences | 3 semester hours/4 quarter hours

One social science course required. May include: psychology, sociology, human development.

English | 3 semester hours/4 quarter hours

One course required. May include: advanced composition and/or grammar, business writing, technical writing, or other similar advanced writing courses.

Additional Recommended Coursework

Higher Mathematics

Recommended courses include college algebra, calculus, etc. 

Communication Sciences/Disorders

Recommended courses include introduction to audiology (strongly recommended); audiologic (aural) rehabilitation; anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing; phonetics; language development; and language disorders.

Business

At least one business course is recommended. Courses pertinent to managing a business are strongly encouraged.

Languages

While there are no specific course requirements for languages (world languages, American Sign Language-ASL or other spoken language), a course is recommended. Applicants are encouraged to note any or all abilities or languages they use, in their application. 

Other Requirements

The GRE is not required. GRE scores reported on the CSDCAS application are not used in the evaluation of the application.

Unofficial Prerequisites Worksheet

The unofficial prerequisites worksheet is designed to help you determine which prerequisites you have fulfilled and those which you have remaining to meet the admissions requirements for the doctor of audiology (AuD) program at Pacific University. Required prerequisite coursework does not need to be completed to apply to Pacific’s AuD program. To be eligible for admission for a given academic year, you need to demonstrate that you can complete all required prerequisite coursework before starting the program in August.

Completed worksheets can be submitted via email, fax, or postal mail.

If you choose to submit your worksheet via email, attach a copy of your unofficial transcripts to the email message. If you choose to submit your worksheet via fax or postal mail, include a copy of your unofficial transcripts with the completed worksheet.

It can take approximately two weeks for you to receive your evaluation back with our comments.
