Careers & Outcomes | Biology

After Pacific | Pacific’s biology graduates are prepared to do anything or go anywhere. Our biology graduates work as lab technicians, environmental consultants, teachers, lawyers, microbiologists, geneticists, ecologists, veterinarians, zoologists and, of course, in a wide range of health and medical professions.

Our students are recruited by the top graduate programs, medical schools and professional schools in the country. Many recent graduates work in the high-tech industry because of their strong backgrounds in biology, chemistry, math, computer science and physics.

Student Learning Outcomes

A student completing a major in Biology shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • Demonstrate deep understanding of five core concepts in biology: evolution; pathways and transformations of energy and matter; information flow, exchange, and storage; structure and function; and biological systems.
  • Use the standard skills and methodologies of biology to answer scientific questions.
  • Apply the scientific method, reasoning and appropriate mathematics to describe, explain and understand biological systems.
  • Use interdisciplinary approaches (applying chemistry, physics, and mathematics to biology) to work on biological problems.
  • Effectively read, write, speak and understand scientific material.
  • Collaborate and communicate within biology and across disciplines.
  • Apply science to issues facing our society.

Program Purpose

Our mission is to provide the highest quality education to our students so they achieve their greatest potential. We endeavor to give students relevant, authentic experiences and to encourage their development as scientists. We highly value mentoring undergraduate researchers and student involvement in civic engagement and outreach. Although we serve many pre-health professions students, we care deeply about providing a broad biology education in a liberal arts context.
