Join Pacific University June 18, 2021 at 3 p.m. for a virtual Juneteenth celebration!
Juneteenth, a combination of the words June and nineteenth, is a jubilee of freedom commemorating the end of slavery.
The holiday marks the date that the last enslaved people learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865.
For more than 150 years, Black American families, home cooks and chefs have commemorated the holiday with a wide range of food traditions that tell a story of the perseverance of Black people. You are invited to a virtual cookout, complete with a cooking tutorial for cowpea salad by Bon Appétit, trivia, and songs!
This event is free and open to all the Pacific community.
Registration is required. All those registered will receive an email with the ingredients list for those who’d like to prepare cowpea salad during the virtual presentation.
