All are welcome to gather for a picnic lunch and hike at Chehalem Ridge Nature Park.
The park opened in 2021 and features 1,260 acres of diverse habitat and wildlife including old Oregon white oaks, Pacific madrone trees and shrubby habitat where deer, coyotes and birds live.
Guests are invited to bring a packed lunch to enjoy alongside other members of the Pacific University community in a truly special place.
Following lunch guests can remain in the picnic area to enjoy the sound of birds and appreciate the land still known as the Outside Place (Chehalem) by the Atfalati people (also known as the Tualatin Kalapuya).
Guests will also be invited to hike to the highest point in the park where one can enjoy sweeping views of the Coast Range and the Tualatin River valley.
Along the way, in clear skies, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Adams can be spotted! Guests can also view the Three Elders along with tarweed and camas plants – both staple foods of the Atfalati – and trees sure to be in showing a rich fall palette.
This event is free to attend, but advance registration is required for planning purposes.
