The United States government currently recognizes 574 American Indian and Alaska Native tribes and villages. The United States is also home to hundreds of unrecognized groups, some which were once recognized.

During Study & Sip, we will explore the expansive topic of gaining, losing and regaining federal recognition and what it means. Study will also include an overview of the indigenous history of Oregon.

There are no experts expected in the virtual room during Study & Sip. At each session lifelong learners gather ready to discuss what they learned from the suggested syllabus, from life experience and from independent education.

All participants are expected to approach the conversation with care and to support one another as we explore subjects that may be new to us and are sometimes sensitive.

Participants are encouraged to stock up on a favorite beverage to enjoy during the discussion.

This virtual event is free, but advance registration is required.
