Pacific University will follow the COVID-19 testing guidance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and county public health agencies, as applicable.
Currently, the CDC and OHA recommend testing for COVID-19 only for certain symptomatic individuals or high-risk groups, including individuals with symptoms of COVID-19, healthcare workers or first responders with symptoms of COVID-19, and residents of congregate living settings with symptoms of COVID-19.
In some circumstances, persons without symptoms of COVID-19 may be prioritized for testing by the health department or a referring clinician. Testing of asymptomatic individuals in the general population is not recommended at this time, because the accuracy of these tests is lessened in the absence of symptoms. The consequences to people with false test results can be significant: false positives may include a lack of access to education, healthcare and employment; false negatives may give a false sense of security and contribute to continued community transmission.
Pacific University advocates the testing of any member of our community who has symptoms of COVID-19 or who belongs to a high-risk group for which testing of asymptomatic individuals is indicated.
We will identify testing resources in the vicinity of our various regional facilities in order to assist members of our community with access to testing for COVID-19.
In case a member of the Pacific community tests positive for COVID-19, we will assist our local public health departments with contact tracing to identify others at risk of infection and refer them for testing if appropriate. We will also assist individuals in the Pacific community who must isolate or quarantine to make sure that they have access to adequate supports during those periods.
