Housing

With the possibility of federal and state mandates around sheltering in place to slow down the spread of COVID-19 and the possibility of further travel restrictions, we are now recommending all of you who are currently living on campus and are able to move out of campus housing do so soon. With the unpredictable nature of these changes, we want you to be in the best space possible as we pivot to online classroom environments starting April 1, 2020. As a result, we are offering the following options for the remainder of spring semester.

Option A – Move out of Pacific University Housing for the Remainder of Spring Semester and Receive a Refund

This option is for those of you who have the opportunity to leave campus and return to your home and would like a refund on your 2019-20 housing contract. If you select this option it will be for the reminder of the semester. If you officially check out of housing between Friday, March 13, and Wednesday, March 25 you will be provided refunds based on your housing assignment as of March 2020:

  • Cascade, McCormick, and Walter Residence Hall Rooms with Full Meal Plans 1-4 — $1,000
  • Burlingham, Gilbert, and Vandervelden Halls with Full Meal Plans 1-4 — $1,100
  • Burlingham, Gilbert, and Vandervelden Halls with No Meal Plans — $700

You need to report your move-out plans via a form that will be sent out later March 19. Once you are confirmed to have completed the check-out procedure, the business office will be notified and a refund will be issued. You must completely move out of your residence hall by Wednesday night, March 25, and return your room key(s) to the designated key drop locations in your hall. If you are unable to move out of your room by Wednesday, March 25, you may apply for an extension to move out no later than Tuesday, March 31 and the refund will still apply. If you have left campus and are unable to come back to retrieve your belongings at this time, mail your key(s) to Residence Life; you will still be eligible for a refund once your move-out is complete at a later date.

Option B – Move out of Pacific University Housing for the Remainder of Spring Semester and Receive a Credit on your 2020-21 Housing Contract

This option is for those of you who have the opportunity to leave campus and return to your home. If you select this option it will be for the reminder of the semester. You will not receive a refund on your current housing contract but will receive a credit on next year’s housing contract. You must officially check out of housing between Friday, March 13, and Wednesday, March 25, in order to be provided a credit on your 2020-21 housing contract. Credits amounts are awarded based on your housing assignment as of March 2020:

  • Cascade, McCormick, and Walter Residence Hall Rooms with Full Meal Plans 1-4 — $1,500
  • Burlingham, Gilbert, and Vandervelden Halls with Full Meal Plans 1-4 — $1,600
  • Burlingham, Gilbert, and Vandervelden Halls with No Meal Plans — $1,000

You need to report your move-out plans via a form that will be sent later March 19. Once you are confirmed to have completed the check-out procedure, the business office will be notified. A credit will be issued for your housing contract on your 2020-21 bill. You must completely move out of your residence halls by Wednesday night, March 25, and return your room key(s) to the designated key drop locations in your hall. If you are unable to move out of your room by Wednesday, March 25, you may apply for an extension to move out no later than Tuesday, March 31, and the refund will still apply. If you have left campus and are unable to come back to retrieve your belongings at this time, mail your key(s) to Residence Life; you will still be eligible for a refund once your move-out is complete at a later date.

Option C — Apply to Remain on Campus for the Remainder of Spring Semester

We understand some of you may not be able to return home for various reasons, and will need to continue at Pacific University in your residence. If you need this option you will need to apply via a form that will be sent later March 19; this must be submitted by March 25, 2020.

Choosing this option does not guarantee that you will be able to stay in your current room assignment. We may need to alter your housing assignment in order to ensure your safety. Food service options on campus will be limited and only carry-out meals will be provided to ensure your safety. Refunds will not be provided should you decide to remain in housing past March 25, 2020. All students remaining in housing for the entire spring semester will need to move out by 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

Economy Meal Plans

Those of you who have purchased an optional economy meal plan will be contacted separately regarding refund details.

Support Options

This is a challenging time, and we encourage you to take care of yourself. The Office of Student Support is available to answer questions, help you connect with faculty or campus departments, and provide non-clinical interpersonal support for all students. They are also here if you need to report a health or safety concern for yourself or others. To access their services, contact Student Support Manager Justin Li (justin.li@pacificu.edu) by e-mail to set up time to meet by phone, Zoom, or in-person, as needed. Additionally, the Student Counseling Center has created a list of tips and resources that may be helpful at this time.
