Official College and University Transcripts
Official transcripts from every institution you have attended should be submitted in your application.
You must have a minimum 50 hours of work, volunteer or observation experience completed at the time you submit your application. These hours must be completed under the supervision of a current practicing certified athletic trainer (registered or licensed, depending on individual state requirements). The Admissions Committee encourages seeking volunteer or observation experience in a variety of settings. For example, certified athletic trainers may be employed in high schools, in colleges or universities, by professional teams, in hospitals or clinics, by performing arts groups, by the military, or in occupational/industrial settings.
Essay & Question Page
An essay about yourself, how you became interested in the profession, and professional goals. Additional written one page question.
Two letters of reference must be submitted with your application. One reference must be from a certified athletic trainer with whom you have worked, volunteered or observed. If possible, the other evaluation should be from a college faculty member or supervisor/employer (healthcare setting).
GRE scores are not required for the Pacific University Master of Science in Athletic Training program.
The TOEFL Exam
The athletic training program requires a minimum TOEFL score of 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based or 100 Internet-based, with minimum subsection scores. More information about the English Proficiency Policy can be found within Pacific University’s supplemental application.
A non-refundable application fee of $25 (U.S.) must be paid at the time you submit your application. Applicants may pay by check or credit card. Consult the application packet for more detailed information.
The applicant pool is competitive and is screened by the Admissions Committee. The committee considers many factors, including: strength and breadth of undergraduate preparation; evidence of professional work experience; strength of evaluation letters; extracurricular and community activities; written and oral communication skills as assessed in the essay.
On-Campus or Phone Interview
After an initial application review by the Admissions Committee, the most competitive applicants are invited for a phone or on-campus personal interview in April. The interview is required and is a strong contributing factor in the admission decision. Consideration is given to candidates’ knowledge of the profession, motivation toward a career as an athletic trainer, ability to think clearly and logically, self-confidence, and verbal expression of ideas.
